Sunisa Lee is an American artistic gymnast. She was the 2020 Olympic all-around gold medalist and uneven bars bronze medalist, and the 2024 Olympic all-around and uneven bars bronze medalist. In 2021, she was listed on the Time 100 list of most influential people in the world. She is nicknamed Suni.
Sunisa’s mother, Yeev Thoj, a healthcare worker, is a Hmong refugee from Laos. Her biological father was also of Hmong descent. Sunisa professionally uses the surname of her mother’s longtime partner John Lee, whom she considers her father, becoming known as Sunisa “Suni” Phabsomphou Lee. John is also Hmong, from Laos. Her sister, Evionn, has also been an artistic gymnast at a regional level.
