Susan Collins is an American politician. A Republican, she has served as a U.S. Senator from Maine, since January 3, 1997. She was Chair of the Senate Aging Committee, from January 3, 2015 to February 3, 2021. While she was not a candidate, she received an electoral vote for Vice President from a faithless elector in the 2016 presidential election.
Her parents, Patricia (McGuigan) and Donald Collins, have both served as Mayor of her hometown of Caribou, Maine. Susan’s mother was born in Barranca-Bermeja, Colombia, to American parents. Susan is married to Thomas Daffron, the CEO of Jefferson Consulting Group.
Susan’s paternal grandfather was Samuel Wilson Collins (the son of Herschel Douglas Collins and Freda C. Files). Samuel was born in Maine. Herschel was the son of Samuel Wilson Collins and Dorcas S. Hardison.
