Sydney is the daughter of Lisa, a lawyer, and Steven Sweeney, who works in medicine. She was raised in the Panhandle region of northwestern Idaho, in a rural area, and moved to Los Angeles, California, when she was fourteen.
Sydney’s patrilineal line can be traced to Jean Baptiste Sabourin, who was born, c. 1641, the son of Jean Sabourin and Antoinette/Étiennette Pineau/Joinaux. Jean Baptiste lived in St-Joachim, Pointe-Claire, Québec, Canada. The family name Sabourin, or Choiniere dit Sabourin, was changed to Sweeney over generations recent to Sydney’s birth, though was often interchanged back and forth.
Sydney’s paternal grandfather is Kenneth Burton Sweeney (the son of Jean Mathieu Sabourin, or John Matthew Sweeney, and of Margaret Helen Fischer). Kenneth was born in Yakima, Yakima Co., Washington. Sydney’s great-grandfather John was born in Brooklyn, Kings, New York, the son of John Batista Sweeney/Sabourin, who was born in Central Falls, Providence, Rhode Island, to French-Canadian parents; and of Philomene/Phoebe Olympe Robinson, who was from Roxton Falls, Acton, Québec, Canada, and was of at least partial French-Canadian descent. Sydney’s great-grandmother Margaret was born in Ipswich, Edmunds, South Dakota, the daughter of Adam Joseph Fischer and Barbara Heinz, who were ethnic German emigrants, from Odessa, now Ukraine; with Adam being from Strassburg, now Kuchurhan.
Sydney’s paternal grandmother is Sherry Lynn Bevry (the daughter of Robert C. Bevry and Margaret Lavon Earlywine). Sherry was born in Seattle, King, Washington. Robert was born in Seattle, the son of Norwegian immigrants, Anton Edward Bevry and Christine/Christina Dorothy/Dorothea Jacobson/Jacobsen. Sydney’s great-grandmother Margaret was born in Jefferson, Harrison, Iowa, the daughter of James Lafayette Earlywine and Dorothy/Dora Electa Bradshaw, and had deep roots in the U.S.
Sydney’s maternal grandfather was William Eugene Mudd (the son of Lawrence Fayette Mudd and Lillie Mae Neuman). William was born in Middletown, Montgomery, Missouri. Lawrence was born in Silex, Lincoln, Missouri, the son of Charles Pius Mudd II and Mary Nina Able. Lillie was the daughter of Albert Neuman, whose parents were German, from Prussia; and of Elizabeth Frank, who was from Hawk Point, Lincoln, Missouri, and whose father, and maternal grandparents, were also German.
Sydney’s maternal grandmother is Sharon/Sherry Ann Larson (the daughter of Charles Theodore Larson and Mary Bernice Chastek). Sharon was born in Spokane, Spokane Co., Washington. Charles was born in Wyoming, the son of Theodore August Larson, who was from Flekkefjord, Norway; and of Amy Lucile Barnes, whose father was from Vermont, and whose mother was from Cornwall, England. Sydney’s great-grandmother Mary was born in Wallace, Shoshone, Idaho, the daughter of Frank Mathew Chastek, who was of Czech parentage; and of Augusta/Allie/Ellis Alexandria Halloran, whose father was from Tipperary, Ireland, and whose mother was from Villafans, Haute-Saône, France.
