Tara Lipinski is an American competitive figure skater, actress, and sports commentator. She competed in women’s singles, and was the first woman to complete what was her signature jump element, the triple loop–triple loop combination, in competition. She was the 1997 U.S. national champion and world champion, the champion of the Champions Series Final in 1997 and 1998, and the 1998 Olympic champion. At one point, she was the youngest solo skater to win the U.S. Nationals, and the youngest skater to become an Olympic and world champion. She starred in the made-for-tv movie Ice Angel , and has appeared on series including Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?
Tara is the daughter of Pat and Jack Lipinski, an oil executive. She was raised in Sewell, New Jersey, during her early years, as well as Sugar Land, Texas, near Houston; and Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Tara is married to sports producer Todd Kapostasy, with whom she has a daughter. She is Catholic.
Tara’s paternal grandfather was named Henry Heromin Lipinski. Henry was born in Bayonne, Hudson, New Jersey, and was Bayonne Fire Captain.
Tara’s paternal grandmother was Harriet Tatarski (the daughter of Joseph Tatarski and Anna Wisniewski). Harriet was born in Lansing, Belmont, Ohio, to Polish parents.
Tara’s maternal grandfather was Joseph Edward Brozyniak (the son of Frank Brozyniak and Aniela “Nellie” Jablonska). Joseph was born in Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey, to Polish parents.
Tara’s maternal grandmother was Dolores Irene Callahan (the daughter of Philip/Phillip Aloysius Callahan and Jane/Jennie Irene Hoey). Dolores was born in Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey. Philip was born in Jersey City, to Irish parents, from County Cavan, Phillip/Philip Callahan and Margaret Lynch. Jane was born in Jersey City, the daughter of James Hoey and Julia Buckley, who were the children of Irish parents.
