Ted Sarandos is an American media executive. He has been co-chief executive officer of Netflix, since 2020.
He is the son of Susan and Theodore Sarandos, an electrician. He was mostly raised in Phoenix, Arizona. Ted is married to diplomat, producer, and political activist Nicole Avant, who was U.S. Ambassador to The Bahamas, from October 22, 2009 to November 21, 2011. Nicole is the daughter of music executive Clarence Avant, who was known as “The Black Godfather.” Ted has two children, film producer Sarah Sarandos and film editor Anthony Sarandos, with his former wife Michelle.
Ted’s paternal grandfather was named Alex/Alexander Karyotakis, later Sarandos (the son of Irene). Alex was an emigrant from the island Samos, Greece.
Ted’s paternal grandmother was Josephine Angeline/Angelina Pelusio (the daughter of Frank Pelusio and Angelina Sedicino). Josephine was born in Newark, Essex, New Jersey, to Italian parents. Angelina was the daughter of Angelo Sedecino and Petronilla Maria De Luca, who was from Santa Lucia di Serino, Avellino, Campania.
Ted’s maternal grandmother was Lillian Beatrice Bratton (the daughter of William G. Bratton and Harriet/Harriett “Hattie” Bush). Lillian was born in New York. Harriet was born in New York, the daughter of Edward Bush and Catherine/Catharine, whose own parents were Irish.
