Terry Jones was a Welsh actor, author, comedian, director, historian, poet, presenter, and writer. He was a member of comedy troupe Monty Python; he directed their films Monty Python’s Life of Brian and Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life , and co-directed Monty Python and the Holy Grail , as well as co-wrote and starred in them; and in And Now for Something Completely Different and Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl . He also directed and wrote the films Erik the Viking and The Wind in the Willows (1996), both of which he starred in; directed and co-wrote the film Absolutely Anything , narrated, co-directed, and co-wrote the documentary film Boom Bust Boom ; directed the film Personal Services , and wrote the film Labyrinth (1986). On television, he was a writer and performer on the shows Twice a Fortnight , Do Not Adjust Your Set , Broaden Your Mind , Marty , The Two Ronnies , and Crusades ; co-created The Complete and Utter History of Britain , Monty Python’s Flying Circus , and Ripping Yarns , all of which he appeared on, as well as Blazing Dragons ; presented and wrote for Terry Jones’ Medieval Lives and Terry Jones’ Barbarians ; narrated The Legend of Dick and Dom ; and presented Terry Jones’ Great Map Mystery . Other members of Monty Python were Graham Chapman , John Cleese , Terry Gilliam , Eric Idle , and Michael Palin .

Terry was the son of Dilys Louisa (Newnes) and Alick George Parry-Jones, a bank clerk. His father was in the RAF in Scotland, and later in India. His father was born in London, and his mother was born in Bolton, Greater Manchester, England. He was mostly raised in Claygate, Surrey, England.

Terry was married to Anna Söderström, until his death. He had two children with his former wife Alison Telfer; and a daughter with Anna.

Terry’s paternal grandfather was George Parry Jones (the son of Evan Jones and Louisa Parry). George was born in Rhyl, Flintshire, Wales.

Terry’s paternal grandmother was Alice Maud Chaston (the daughter of George Chaston and Harriet Elizabeth Mitchell). Alice was born in Norwich, Norfolk, England. Harriet was the daughter of Frederick Gavell Mitchell.
