Thomas Vinterberg is a Danish film director and writer. He has directed the films The Biggest Heroes , The Celebration (1998), It’s All About Love , Dear Wendy , A Man Comes Home , Submarino , The Hunt (2012), Far from the Madding Crowd , The Commune , Kursk (2018), and Another Round . He also co-wrote all of his films, except for Dear Wendy , Far from the Madding Crowd , and Kursk . He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director for Another Round , which won the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. He also directed and co-wrote the mini-series Families like Ours . He co-founded the Dogme 95 movement in filmmaking.

Thomas is the son of Ingerlise and film critic Søren Vinterberg. He is married to Helene Reingaard Neumann. He has had at least one daughter.

Thomas’s paternal grandfather was named Hermann Johan Bertel Sørensen/Vinterberg (the son of Hans Sørensen/Vinterberg). Hermann was born in Sankt Jakobs Sogn. Hans was born in Sakskøbing Sogn., the son of Søren Hansen and Maren Andersdatter.

Thomas’s paternal grandmother was Annelise Aurelia Jensen (the daughter of Albert Charles Frederik Jensen and Karen Marie Johanne Rasmussen). Annelise was born in Mariendals Sogn. Albert was born in Mariager Sogn. Karen was born in Frederiksberg.
