His mother was born in Scotland, of Irish descent. He is married to actress Kara Wilson, with whom he has a daughter, actress, comedian, and ventriloquist Nina Conti. His grandson, Nina’s son, is actor Arthur Conti .
Tom’s maternal grandfather was Michael James McGoldrick (the son of Bernard McGoldrick and Mary Quinn). Michael’s parents were Irish.
Tom’s maternal grandmother was Rosina Donaghy (the daughter of Bernard Donaghy and Bridget Foley). Rosina was born in Old Cumnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, to Irish parents. Bernard was the son of Francis Donaghy and Mary McElroy. Bridget was born in Sligo, the daughter of John Foley and Bridget Monaghan.
