Tom Fears was an American professonal football player, and coach. A split end, he spent his entire playing career with the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL). He was a wide receivers coach for the Green Bay Packers, the Los Angeles Rams, and the Atlanta Falcons, an offensive ends coach for the Green Bay Packers, head coach for the New Orleans Saints and the Southern California Sun, an offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, and director of player personnel for the Los Angeles Express.
Tom was the son of Carmen Valdés and Charles William Fears, a mining engineer. His father was American. His mother was Mexican. His family moved to Los Angeles, California, when he was six.
Tom’s paternal grandfather was Thomas Jess Brown Calhoun Fears (the son of Jesse Lafayette Fears and Mary Ann Eva Smith). Jesse was born in Georgia, the son of William Sadler Fears and Levicy Smith. Mary was born in South Carolina, the daughter of John Hiriam Smith and Sarah R. Hendrick.
Tom’s paternal grandmother was Frances Leanora Warren (the daughter of Charles Warren and Ann Smith). Charles was born in Mississippi, the son of Benajah Warren and Ferribah Stringer.
