Tom Ford is an American fashion designer and filmmaker. He is known for his brand that shares his name, and for having been creative director at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. He was chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. He has directed the films A Single Man , which he co-wrote; and Nocturnal Animals , which he wrote.
Tom is the son of Shirley Ann and Thomas David Ford, who were realtors. He was raised in Houston, and San Marcos, Texas, and then moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, when he was eleven. He was married to fashion journalist and editor Richard Buckley, until his death, with whom he has a son.
Tom’s paternal grandfather was Gerald David Ford (the son of Thomas Bonner Ford and Ethel Henson). Gerald was born in Texas. Thomas was born in Texas, the son of Thomas Jefferson Ford and Nancy Josephine Yerby. Ethel was born in Mississippi, the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Henson and Harriet Ann Cummings.
