Tom is the son of Doris and Frederick Homan, a police officer. He is married to Elizabeth Homan, with whom he has four children. He is a practising Catholic.

Tom’s paternal grandfather was Roy DeForest Homan (the son of Frederich/Fred M./W. Homan and Ina Ellen Lane). Roy was born in Port Leyden, Lewis, New York, to parents who were also born in the state; and had deep roots in NY, going back to early English and Dutch settlers. Fred was the son of Josiah Homan and Mary Jennie Satterley/Satterly. Tom’s great-grandmother Ina was the daughter of Waltermon/Walter A. Lane and Nettie E. Post.

Tom’s paternal grandmother was Angeline Alberta Hoffert (the daughter of John Benjamin Hoffert and Walburga Seelman). Angeline was born in Fish Creek, Lewis, New York, to parents who were also born in Lewis. John was the son of Mathis/Mathias Hoffert/Hoffart, who was born in Alsace-Lorraine; and of Maria Elizabeth Kroeger/Kraeger, who was German, from Westphalia, Prussia. Tom’s great-grandmother Walburga likely had German ancestry.

Tom’s maternal grandfather Albert J. Gibeau (the son of Joseph Napoleon/Napolean Gibeau and Harriet Leduc). Albert was born in New York, to French-Canadian parents, from Québéc. Joseph was born in Sainte-Martine, Châteauguay, the son of Julien Gibeau and Marie Louise Lamagdeleine. Harriet was the daughter of François LeDuc and Marie Henriette Cousineau.

Mary was born in Utica, Oneida, New York, the daughter of Thomas O’Toole, who was an Irish immigrant; and of Catherine/Catharine Condon, whose parents were also Irish, with at least partial roots in County Waterford.
