Tyson’s paternal grandfather was Donald Junior Ballou (the son of Pvt. Donal Aubra Ballew and Ora Allene Rainwater). Donald was born in Davenport, Oklahoma, and had deep American roots. Donal was the son of James Madison Ballew, whose mother was of Cajun French descent; and of Bertha Hayden. Tyson’s great-grandmother Ora was the daughter of Robert Allen Rainwater and Malissa Parthenea Weaver.

Tyson’s paternal grandmother was Norma Jean Moates (the daughter of John Otto Moates and Stella Margaret Woodard). Norma was born in Childress, Texas, and had deep lines in the U.S. John was the son of Otto Ira Moates and Marian Nancy Davis. Stella was the daughter of Jesse Thomas Woodard and Rhoda E. Moore.

Tyson’s maternal grandfather was Wayne Edward Kottwitz (the son of Guido Otto Kottwitz and Matilda Margaret “Tillie” Best). Wayne was born in Nokomis, Illinois.
