Varg Vikernes is a Norwegian musician, writer, and blogger. He founded music project Burzum, part of the early Norwegian black metal scene. He has also been a member of black/death metal band Old Funeral and black metal band Mayhem. He has embraced odinism, esoteric Nazism, and neo-Nazism. He is also known as Count Grishnackh, Greifi Grishnackh, The Count, Greven, Gandalf The White, Louis Cachet, and Varg Qisling Larssøn Vikernes.
Varg is the son of Helene and Lars Kristian Vikernes. Some sources state that Helene’s first name is Inger. It is not clear if this is accurate Varg is married to French national Marie Cachet, and has eight children.
In August 1993, Varg stabbed musician Euronymous to death. Euronymous was also a member of their band Mayhem. Varg was sentenced to 21 years in prison for first-degree murder, and for arson of churches. He was released on parole in early 2009.
Varg’s maternal grandfather was Johan Bore (the son of Ingvald Bore and Gunda Bertine Johansdatter Nærland). Johan was born in Stavanger, Stavanger, Rogaland, Norway. Ingvald was the son of Garman Enevald Danielsen Bore and Inger Helene Hermansen. Gunda was the daughter of Johan Rasmussen Nærland and Marta Laurine Jakobsdatter Bø.
Varg’s maternal grandmother was Ruth Blom (the daughter of Christoffer Johan Blom and Johanna Marie Ingebrigtsen). Ruth was born in Stord, Hordaland, Norway. Christoffer was the son of Michel Blom and Georgine Marie Monsen. Johanna was the daughter of Ludvig Ingebrigtsen and Johanne Marie Johnsdatter Ubøsund.
