Vitas is a Latvian-born Ukrainian-Russian singer, songwriter, and actor. His music includes operatic pop, techno, dance, classical, jazz, and folk. He is popular in Asian countries, including China, and appeared in the film Mulan (2009). He is also known as Vitalik and Vitas. He is a dual citizen of Russia and Ukraine.
Vitas was born in Daugavpils, Latvian SSR, the son of Lilia Mihailovna Gracheva, a costume designer, and Vladas Arkadevich Grachev-Marantzman, a musician. He was mostly raised in Odessa, Ukraine. Vitas officially changed his first name to Vitaliy, the Ukrainian version of Vitas, when he was sixteen. He is married to Svetlana Grankovska, with whom he has three children.
Vitas’s paternal grandfather was named Arkadiy Davidovich/Davydovich Marantzman. Arkadiy was born in Odessa, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union, now Ukraine, and was Jewish.
Vitas’s grandmother was of Lithuanian or Latvian descent.
