Wee Kim Wee was a Singaporean journalist, diplomat, and politician. He served as President of Singapore , from 2 September, 1985 to 1 September, 1993. He was also Singapore High Commissioner to Malaysia, from 15 September, 1973 to 31 August, 1980, and Singapore Ambassador to South Korea, and Singapore Ambassador to Japan, both, from September 1980 to April 1984.
He was the son of Chua Hay Luan and Wee Choong Lay, who worked on a ship. He was married to philanthropist and chef Koh Sok Hiong, until his death, with whom he had seven children.
Wee’s maternal grandfather was named Ying Chiang Chua.
Wee’s maternal grandmother was named Chia Bee Tan.
