Wes Streeting is an English politician. A member of the Labour Party, he has been President of the National Union of Students, from 1 July, 2008 to 10 June, 2010, and Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, from 5 July, 2024 to 14 May, 2026; as well as, a Member of Redbridge London Borough Council for Chadwell/Aldborough, from 8 July, 2010 to 3 May, 2018, and a Member of Parliament for Ilford North, since 7 May 2015.
Wes is the son of Corrina and Mark Streeting. He was raised on a council flat. He is a practising Anglican.
Wes’s paternal grandfather was named Bill Streeting. Bill served in the Royal Navy in WWII, and was a civil engineer.
Wes’s paternal grandmother was named Heather Hill.
Wes’s maternal grandfather was William David “Bill” Crowley (the son of James William Grimsey and Daisy Jane Hughes/Crowley). Bill was an armed robber, who was jailed for his crimes. He was said to have been an associate of the Kray Twins. James was born in Southwark, London, the son of William Grimsey and Eliza Strong. Wes’s great-grandmother Daisy was born in Wandsworth, the daughter of Alfred Hughes, whose father was from Anglesey, Wales; and of Mary Jane Brann.
Wes’s maternal grandmother was Elizabeth Anne “Libby”/Libbie Knott (the daughter of Frank Sidney Knott and Annie Pope). Elizabeth was born in Newport Gwent. She was incarcerated at HM Prison Holloway for assisting with her husband’s criminal activities. Frank was born in Newport, Monmouthshire, Wales, the son of English parents, Charles Albert Knott, who was from South Stoneham, Hampshire; and Lucy Eliza Taylor, who was from Hadley, Shropshire. Wes’s great-grandmother Annie was born in Newport, the daughter of George Bertie Pope, whose parents were English, his father from Wantage, Berkshire, and his mother from Taunton, Somerset; and of Emily Maud Pring, who had roots in England and Ireland.
