William Frawley was an American vaudevillian and actor. His roles include Fred Mertz on the series I Love Lucy and The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour , and Bub O’Casey on the series My Three Sons ; as well as the films Going My Way , Miracle on 34th Street (1947), Monsieur Verdoux , and Gentleman Jim . He was also known as Bill Frawley.
He was the son of Mary E. and Michael A. Frawley. His parents were born in Iowa, both of them to Irish parents. His brother was actor Paul Frawley. William was married to vaudevillian Edna Louise Broedt, with whom he performed the act “Frawley and Louise,” cross-country.
William’s paternal grandfather was named Patrick Frawley.
