Wolfman Jack was an American disc jockey, and actor. He was known for his gravelly voice and wolf-like appearance. His roles included the films American Graffiti , Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band , More American Graffiti , Motel Hell , Mortuary Academy , and Midnight (1989), the made-for-tv movie The Midnight Hour , the shows The Fonz and the Happy Days Gang and Wolf Rock TV , and the special Garfield in Paradise .
Wolfman was the son of Rosamond Mable/Mabel (Small) and Anson Weston Smith, Jr., who was an Episcopalian Sunday school teacher, writer, and editor. His father was executive vice president of Financial World. He was married to Lucy “Lou” Lamb, with whom he had two children.
Wolfman had considerable New England ancestry, including in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, dating back to Colonial America; as well as an English-born grandmother. He acquired Mexican citizenship.
Wolfman’s paternal grandfather was Anson Weston Smith (the son of Lewis W. “Lewie” Smith and Lucretia Mariah Clark). Wolfman’s grandfather Anson was born in Hartford, Connecticut. Lewis was the son of Cyril W. Smith and Sarah Maria Marcy. Lucretia was the daughter of Ezra W. Clark and Frances O. Danforth.
Wolfman’s paternal grandmother was named Clara Hannah Sharp (the daughter of Frederick Sharp). Clara was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, England.
Wolfman’s maternal grandfather was Anthony Taylor Small (the son of Charles DeSaix Small and Virginia Conway Denny). Anthony was born in Pennsylvania. Virginia was born in Maryland, the daughter of James Denny and Mary Anne Conaway.
Wolfman’s maternal grandmother was Mabel Smith (the daughter of George Orlando Smith and Elizabeth I. “Libbie” Allen). Mabel was born in Fort Edward, Washington County, New York. George was born in Montgomery County, New York, the son of Gideon Smith and Betsey Stiles. Wolfman’s great-grandmother Elizabeth was the daughter of William H. Allen and Phebe.
