Yoon Suk Yeol (윤석열) is a South Korean politician, lawyer, and public prosecutor. He served as President of South Korea , from 10 May, 2022 to 4 April, 2025; when he was impeached, and removed from office. He was previously Prosecutor General of South Korea, from 25 July, 2019 to 4 March, 2021. He is nicknamed “Gyong” (굥).
His father, Yoon Ki-joong, was born in Nonsan, and was an economist, educator, and professor, who graduated from Yonsei University and Hitotsubashi University. Yoon’s father established the Korean Statistical Society, and was a full member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Korea. Yoon’s mother, Choi Jeong-ja, was born in Gangneung, Gangwon-do, and was a lecturer at Ewha Womans University, before leaving the position after marrying.
President Yoon is married to businessperson and art curator Kim Keon Hee (born Kim Myeong-sin). President Yoon is Catholic, and was baptized with the middle name “Ambrose.”
President Yoon’s paternal grandfather was Yoon Ho-byeong (the son of Yoon Sang-nyeon and Park Go-ryeong). Sang-nyeon was the son of Yoon Ja-hong and Jeon Ju-i.
President Yoon’s paternal grandmother was named In Dong-jang.
