Yorgos Lanthimos is a Greek filmmaker, director, producer, and screenwriter. Beginning in Greek cinema and transitioning to English-language productions, he has directed the films Kinetta , Dogtooth , Alps , The Lobster , The Killing of a Sacred Deer , all of which he co-wrote; The Favourite (2018), Poor Things , Kinds of Kindness , which he co-wrote; and Bugonia ; and the music video for “Theleis I Den Theleis.” He also co-directed the film My Best Friend (2001). He often works in the psychologial thriller-horror genre, usually with a strong comedic element.
He is the son of Eirini, a shop owner, and Antonis Lanthimos, a professional basketball player, who played for Pagrati BC and the Greece national team. He is married to actress and director Ariane Labed .
