Yoshirō Mori is a Japanese politician. He has served as Prime Minister of Japan , from 5 April, 2000 and 26 April, 2001. He was also Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary (Political affairs), from 28 November, 1977 to 7 December, 1978, Minister of Education, from 27 December, 1983 to 1 November, 1984, Minister of International Trade and Industry, from 12 December, 1992 to 20 July, 1993, Minister of Construction, from 8 August, 1995 to 11 January, 1996, President of the Liberal Democratic Party, from 5 April, 2000 to 24 April, 2001, and President of the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, from 24 January, 2014 to 18 February, 2021; as well as, a Member of the House of Representatives for Ishikawa’s 1st district, and then 2nd district, cumulatively, from 28 December, 1969 to 16 November, 2012.
He is the son of Kaoru and Shigeki Mori, who was a businessperson and politician. His father and grandfather were both Mayors of Neagari, Ishikawa Prefecture. He is married to Chieko Maki, with whom he has two children.
