Yuli Gurriel is a Cuban professional baseball player. A first baseman, he played for the Yokohama DeNA BayStars, the Houston Astros, the Miami Marlins, the Kansas City Royals, and the San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball (MLB). He is nicknamed “La Piña.”
Yuli is the son of Olga Ledia Castillo Fernandez and Lourdes Gourriel, who is a baseball player and, with the Cuba national baseball team, an Olympic gold medalist in men’s baseball. His brother, Lourdes Gurriel, Jr., is also a professional baseball player, who plays for the Arizona Diamondbacks of MLB.
