Yung Lean is a Swedish rapper, singer, and songwriter. He is widely recognized as one of the most influential figures in the early cloud rap era. He gained prominence in 2013 with his song “Ginseng Strip 2002,” which went viral on YouTube, and debut mixtape, “Unknown Death 2002.” The following year, he released his debut studio album “Unknown Memory.” He has been a member of rap collective Sad Boys and post-punk band Död Mark; and has often collaborated with Bladee . He has appeared in the films Circus Maximus and Sacrifice (2025). He is also known as jonatan leandoer96 and jonatan leandoer127.
Yung Lean is the son of diplomat and human rights activist Elsa Håstad (Elsa Sara Mariann Håstad) and writer, poet, translator, and literary critic Kristoffer Leandoer (Sten Wilfred Kristoffer Leandoer). His mother was Swedish Ambassador to Albania, from 1 September, 2019 to August 2023. His maternal grandfather was British Jewish playwright and dramatist Arnold Wesker. Yung Lean’s maternal great-uncle, grandmother’s brother, was legal scholar Torgny Håstad, who was Justice of the Supreme Court of Sweden, from 1998 to 2011.
Yung Lean’s maternal grandfather was Arnold Wesker (the son of Joseph Wesker and Cecile Leah Perlmutter). Arnold was born in Stepney, London, England. Joseph was a tailor’s machinist and active communist, who was of Russian Jewish and Ukrainian Jewish descent. Yung Lean’s great-grandmother Leah was born in Transylvania, to Hungarian Jewish parents, Jacob Perlmutter and Bella Toba Cornweild.
Yung Lean’s maternal grandmother was Disa Håstad (the daughter of Elis Wilhelm Håstad and Karin Vilhelmina Hultman). Disa was a Swedish journalist. Yung Lean’s great-grandfather Elis Håstad was a political scientist and politician with the Right Party, who was a Member of the Riksdag, from 1941 to 1959, and Governor of Uppsala County, from 1957 to 1959.
