Zawe Ashton is a British actress, playwright, and narrator. She is known for her roles in the films St Trinian’s 2: The Legend of Fritton’s Gold , Blitz , Dreams of a Life , Nocturnal Animals , Greta , Velvet Buzzsaw , Mr. Malcolm’s List , and The Marvels ; on the shows Case Histories , Fresh Meat , Lapland , Not Safe For Work , Guerrilla , Wanderlust , and The Handmaid’s Tale ; and in the made-for-tv movie Maryland (2022). She was a writer on the play The Children’s Monologues , and wrote the plays The Hardest Rain and For All the Women Who Thought They Were Mad .

She was born in Camden, to a Ugandan mother, Victoria, and an English father, Paul Ashton. She has two children with her partner, actor Tom Hiddleston .

Zawe’s maternal grandfather was Paulo Muwanga, who served as President of Uganda, from 12 May, 1980 to 22 May, 1980, Vice President of Uganda, from December 1980 to July 1985, and Prime Minister of Uganda, from 1 August, 1985 to 25 August, 1985.
